Subject: [network105] Just a reminder on packet parameters
To: network105@yahoogroups.com
Welcome to our newest members!
I usually send out a reminder every so often just with a few guidelines to make sure we're all on the same page with parameters and network operation. Everything is covered in detail in Burt's intro text which is emailed to you on joining and also available in our files section.
Here's a list of HF Packet parameters we find most successful:
HB: 300
PACLEN: 60
MAXFRAME: 1
FRACK: 5
DWAIT: 0
If you have a more advanced TNC then also set these:-
PPERSIST: ON
SLOTTIME: 10
PERSIST: 63
If you are using sound card packet (e.g. AGWPE, MultiPSK, MixW) then
definitely check the parameters as most are at the default values for
1200 baud packet.
We use the following SSID convention:
-1: Personal Maildrops (PBBS)
-2: Cross-port digipeater (known as a "gateway" on Kantronics TNCs)
-7: Node e.g. NetRom, KA-Node, K-Net, AEA Gateway Node e.t.c.,
Also when beaconing your info please make sure that you reference
"Network 105" NOT "NET105". NET105 is currently a node alias for
VE1FYI and confusion results.
Our beacons should be of a similar format to the following:
For KA-nodes, AEA gateway nodes etc
Network 105: K7TMG-1/B K7TMG-2/G K7TMG-7/N REPUBLIC, WA [DN08PR]
For NetRom/K-Net nodes then add your node alias too:
Network 105: K7TMG-1/B K7TMG-2/G WA105:K7TMG-7/N REPUBLIC, WA [DN08PR]
It's very useful to put in your grid locator for those with rotatable antennas!
Remember node aliases are coordinated so before bringing a NetRom/K-Net node on-air then check in this group first.
Thanks to all that make Network 105 a great place to hang out (when there's no WW RTTY contests!)
